Ballast Water D2 Commissioning Testing
The Ballast Water Management (BWM) Convention is an internationally binding instrument developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to address the transfer of harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens in ships’ ballast water, which occurs during its discharge. As per IMO’s BWM Convention and BWM.2, Circ.70, Rev.1 in 2020, we offer rapid, scientific and independent ballast water sampling and testing for vessels. Usually, in order to meet the D2 requirements, Commissioning Testing is conducted at the time of the BWMS installation. Ballast Water Testing as per VGP Requirements
The 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP) is a mandatory regulatory permit issued by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that governs discharges from vessels operating in the United States waters. The VGP regulatory requirements related to Ballast Water exercises strict requirements in terms of the testing frequency of the Ballast Water System onboard, record keeping, reporting, the type of equipment testing and verification protocols, among several other requirements. The VGP regulation includes general effluent limits applicable to all covered discharges as well as general effluent limits applicable to 27 specific discharge streams in addition to narrative water-quality based effluent limits, inspection, monitoring, recordkeeping, reporting requirements and additional requirements applicable to certain vessel types.
