CTI and CTI-Maritec (a business arm of the CTI Group), provides testing services for hazardous materials, which may potentially exist onboard maritime vessels.
Presently, two regulations govern the requirements to protect human health, safety and the environment and subsequently for safe and environmentally sound ship recycling:
- Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, 2009 SR/CONF/45 (HKC), which will enter into force in June 2025.
- The EU Regulation on Ship Recycling (EU SRR) No. 1257/2013, which is in force since 31 December 2020.
Both regulations stipulate that vessels operating in the marine environment must develop and maintain an Inventory of Hazardous Material (IHM) Part I, which needs to be certified, kept updated and carried onboard at all times. The EU SRR requires investigation of 15 hazardous substances, listed in Annexes I and II to the regulation, while HKC requires 13.
CTI and CTI-Maritec provide state-of-the-art testing through certified Laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025) with detailed reporting in development of IHM Part I or otherwise for the following 15 hazardous materials:
1. Asbestos
